The first a more guided approach for students who may need more assistance; the second level is for students who want more of a challenge and need less guidance. And, there are extra credit challenges to engage your talents after you've mastered the regular exercises. These exercises are fun and you get instant feedback by seeing your crafted packets sent across the network. Have you ever tried to craft a packet to reset an established TCP session? You'll get an opportunity to try "sniping" a TCP session in one of the hands-on exercises.

This course offers valuable knowledge for both network defenders and network testers. Once you've tried scapy, you'll never go back to using command line packet crafting tools!

Prerequisites

Students should have a solid understanding of TCP/IP and must understand how a TCP session is established and TCP segments are exchanged, including the concepts of the three-way handshake, TCP sequence and acknowledgment numbers, and the use of different TCP flags and their effect on the session. Knowledge of Python is not necessary; however familiarity with any kind of scripting/programming language is helpful. The class exercises will be on a Linux distribution, so comfort with Linux or the use of a command line environment is desirable
