Course Number: 2663

For serious developers who will be using XML in a production environment.

Description

This course covers the .Net classes available for manipulating XML. It is one day longer than course 2500, and its labs are more extensive than 2500. Unlike course 2500, course 2663 does not discuss XML, and related, syntaxes; primarily because XML syntax is standardized by the W3C consortium, not by Microsoft. Rather, the focus of 2663 is on the .Net classes that can be used to programmatically manipulate XML; including the appropriateness of each class for a particular task. Course 2663 is more intense than 2500, and more developer oriented. For instance, coverage of XSLT in course 2663 includes accessing custom objects from within XSL, course 2500 does not. Subjects covered include:
Basic XML; Parsing XML; Validating XML;
Writing XML (Not covered in 2500);
XPath querying XML; Using DOM;
Transforming XML using XSLT; XML serialization (Not covered in 2500).
Serious developers who will be using XML in a production environment should take course 2663 rather than course 2500.

Prerequisites

Before attending this course, students must have:
Experience with programming languages such as Visual Basic .NET or Microsoft Visual C#;
Experience using the Microsoft Visual tudio .NET developer environment; Experience building applications using the Extensible Stylesheet Language for Transformation (XSLT), XML Path Language (XPath), and XML schemas.
