Unlike most courses that are available elsewhere, this class is hands-on. Students will work on computers and software, including Windows 7, during the class.
Whether you just want to learn how to work with computer hardware and operating systems or if you want to prepare for the CompTIA A+ exams, this five-day, hands on course will provide you with the information you need. Students will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the following tasks on personal computer hardware and operating systems: installation, PC building, system upgrades, repair, system configuration, troubleshooting, problem diagnosis, and preventative maintenance. You'll learn elements of soft skills, security, and customer interaction.
CompTIA's A+ certification is the industry standard for validating the foundational skills needed by today's computer support professionals. This international vendor-neutral certification requires that you pass two exams.
This course focuses on preparing students for the two exams necessary to be certified: CompTIA A+ Essentials, exam code 220-701; and CompTIA A+ Practical Application, exam code 220-702, and includes these extras:
A+ certification practice exams
Two A+ exam vouchers - one for the Essentials Exam and one for the IT Technical exam
Please note that exams will not be administered during this class. After class, you can set up Pearson/VUE testing directly through ISInc when you are ready.
In addition to preparing you for A+ certification, this course also meets DoD 8570.1 training requirements.
The target student is anyone with basic computer user skills who is interested in obtaining a job as an IT professional or PC technician. In addition, this course will help prepare students to achieve a CompTIA A+ Certification
Students taking this course should have the following skills: end-user skills with Windows-based personal computers, including the ability to: browse and search for information on the Internet; start up, shut down, and log on to a computer and network; run programs; and move, copy, delete, and rename files in Windows Explorer. Students should also have basic knowledge of computing concepts, including the difference between hardware and software; the functions of software components, such as the operating system, applications, and file systems; and the function of a computer network.
An introductory course in a Windows operating system, or equivalent skills and knowledge, is required. Students can take any one of the following courses: Introduction to Personal Computers Using Windows XP, Course WINXP01 or Microsoft Windows 7, Level 1 (Course WIN7-01).
