There is no more critical function in the management of a Microsoft SharePoint Services deployment than identifying a clear project scope, which includes identifying the requirements of the product the project will create. Unfortunately, identifying those requirements is difficult under even the best circumstances. Often, requirements are poorly understood even by business users of the systems or products to be created by the project and by the project designers and developers. Users often have a difficult time articulating requirements, and, frequently, the requirements will need to be changed during the course of the project. Those who develop the SharePoint deployment may also bring their own biases to product design, which may further complicate the ability of the deployment to produce deliverables that meet user needs. And because of the extensive capabilities of SharePoint and its potential impact on the operations of any organization, senior stakeholders will have an interest in and opinions about the direction of the deployment and the business problems it should address.
This two-day, highly interactive workshop is designed to acquaint managers and users with the capabilities of SharePoint, increase their skills in requirements management for complex IT projects, and identify the requirements for a SharePoint solution that meets their unique needs. It will engage participants in a creative and challenging process that begins with questions of organizational needs and culminates with more detailed solution design. Each participant should leave the workshop with a solid grasp of ways to improve their own SharePoint deployments through better requirements elicitation and management.
The workshop employs a case study involving a complex SharePoint deployment as a means of enhancing the participant learning experience.
